GILLY LOCO CHILI VERDE LASAGNA

Lasagna. A staple in many homes and restaurants, this traditional Italian meal has dozens of varieties and you have probably tried them all at one time or another. To you, lasagna may be old news and you want something different and more exciting. Well, I bet you’ve never had it like this. We do things a little differently and a whole lot spicier in New Mexico. Treat yourself, your family, and your friends to something new and exciting. Treat them to a dinner of Gilly Loco Chili Verde™ Lasagna.

Assemble these ingredients for the lasagna:

  • 1 jar (16 oz) Gilly Loco Chili Verde
  • 1 package (16 oz) lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • salt and pepper

Assemble these ingredients for the Béchamel Sauce:

  • 3½ tablespoons butter
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups milk
  • 2 cup asadero cheese, shredded
  • salt and pepper

Directions:

  1. In a large sauté pan, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Reduce heat to low, add Gilly Loco Chili Verde™ and simmer for 5 minutes (add beef or vegetable stock if mixture gets too thick). Remove beef mixture from heat and season to taste with salt and pepper.
  2. Meanwhile, prepare the Béchamel sauce and melt butter over low heat in a 2-quart pot. When butter is melted slowly whisk in flour. Slowly drizzle in milk as you continue to whisk. Bring mixture to a simmer and slowly whisk in Asadero cheese. Remove from heat and season to taste with salt and pepper.
  3. Prepare lasagna and add a thin layer of the beef mixture to the bottom of a 10 ½ inch x 7 inch casserole dish. Next, layer uncooked lasagna noodles, meat mixture and Béchamel sauce. Repeat to make two layers. Top with another layer of noodles, a thin layer of Béchamel and top with Cheddar cheese.
  4. Bake in oven at 350°F for 40 minutes or until the top is bubbly and golden.
